A Nostalgic Yet New Gateway to Hirado
Albergo Diffuso is a dispersed accommodation concept that originated in Italy, where the entire town is envisioned as a single hotel. Guest rooms, dining spaces, and reception areas are scattered throughout the town, allowing visitors to stay not merely as tourists but as temporary residents immersed in the local life. By utilizing vacant houses and historic buildings, the system preserves regional landscapes and culture while fostering new forms of vitality.
“Chobotei Tora no Tsuki” is a renovated guesthouse and café adjoining the Matsuura Historical Museum, which preserves and exhibits materials from the former lords of the Hirado Domain, the Matsuura family.
As its name suggests, the facility offers a sweeping view of Hirado City. To make the most of this scenery, indoor table seating is complemented by an outdoor deck that sits one step lower, ensuring that the view remains unobstructed from every seat. The result is a space where guests can enjoy their meals in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
Despite the constraints of working within an existing structure, the design incorporates the blue tones that symbolize the “Hirado Albergo Diffuso Town” concept, creating a sense of unity with the broader cityscape while adding a refined accent to the interior furnishings.
