The train for going far
WEST EXPRESS GINGA is a new type of train by West Japan Railway Company Co., Ltd. We are designing for concepts, direction, design, and all of this train. The service has been started in September 2020. Our team renovated for series 117 type which has 6 coaches of the 1980s model.
In order to meet the demand, "I wanna go somewhere far away" that everybody has, the train’s interior has been thoroughly refurbished with different seating and sleeping options to suit different budgetary needs, and there are several free areas that passengers can use just as they please. The train has various spaces such as a seat for lying down while viewing, a seat with elegance like the classical sleeping car Pullman, a seat with pleasure like the couchette in European style, and a space for joining with the local people, and so on.
Our main issue in design is how to create a community on board this train. We layout 90 seats as free spaces at all coaches for 90 passengers. The passengers can find many own spaces on board this train for the party by talking, enjoying the view silently, and reading books, or board games.
For example, communicating with passengers and the local people at the stop stations. Passengers and Travelers will not forget what they talked to the local people on the travel road. Our design will create a memory for the journey.
The West Express Ginga runs two round trips a week as an overnight limited express train linking Kyoto and Osaka with Izumo or Hiroshima and West Japan area.
