Big roof wraps for you
The Arima Line was opened in 1930s as a railway directly connecting Arima Onsen from central Kobe City over Mt. Rokko. In order to solve the housing shortage, the l housing complexes were developed along this line. The declining number of users was a big problem since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995. We conducted fieldwork and discussions with the railway company’s staff about the future of the Arima Line. We proposed a large roof that would become a new symbol of the area. It is nasally for staying and waiting area as well as passing at the station. We designed a reinforced concrete office and toilets, and a large roof like the natural scenery of the mountain.
